4th of July

I love the 4th.  This year was a bit unusual because it rained a lot and it was nice and cool.  (A couple of my kids complained that it was too cold.)   We spent the day with Leo and Annette and their family.  Leo barbecued and there was tons of great food, as always.  I made a huge fruit salad (no picture of that), flan (also no picture), a "flag" cake, and we brought cookies we bought from Annie.

We ate.  We talked.  We played games outside.  We played games inside (Cover Your Assets and Mexican Train).  We lit fireworks and watched fireworks and visited and had a great time.  And there was the most beautiful sunset.

This was just round 1 of food.  So much more food was prepared and served and enjoyed.

Michelle's job

Michelle really wants to save up for a car.   So she got a job this summer.  During the school year she was tutoring a cute girl in our ward.  She's still doing that a bit this summer.  Then she got a job at Zupas.  She only works 2-3 days per week, but she likes it pretty well.  And it seems like they will be good to work with her schedule once school starts so that she can keep working but not too many hours.

I'm really proud of her...though sometimes her work schedule prevents her from being able to do some of the fun things we have planned this summer.

Foam Run 5K

On Saturday, June 22 Annette and I ran (okay I use that liberally...we jogged with a little bit of walking mixed in) a 5K called the Foam Glow.  It ended up being pretty fun.  Before the run starts they have a DJ and music and prizes.  They spray colored foam on you.   As you race, they have several spots where you run through foam and they have blacklights to accentuate your "glow."   I'm not much of a runner (though I have been walking 3-4 miles about 4-5 days each week this summer and occasionally jog parts of it) but a 5K is doable and especially with a friend.
