Recent Happenings

Ella, Gabby and I went to see Aladdin.  It was AMAZING!   I especially loved a song "Speechless".  It was meant to represent overcoming unfair rules and limitations, women becoming empowered, etc.  But all I could think about as I watched and listened is how we have been told as women to stand up and speak out.  I heard President Nelson's words echoing in my head:

"My dear sisters, whatever your calling, whatever your circumstances, we need your impressions, your insights, and your inspiration. We need you to speak up and speak out in ward and stake councils. We need each married sister to speak as “a contributing and full partner”10 as you unite with your husband in governing your family. Married or single, you sisters possess distinctive capabilities and special intuition you have received as gifts from God. We brethren cannot duplicate your unique influence.
We know that the culminating act of all creation was the creation of woman!11 We need your strength!
Attacks against the Church, its doctrine, and our way of life are going to increase. Because of this, we need women who have a bedrock understanding of the doctrine of Christ and who will use that understanding to teach and help raise a sin-resistant generation.12 We need women who can detect deception in all of its forms. We need women who know how to access the power that God makes available to covenant keepers and who express their beliefs with confidence and charity. We need women who have the courage and vision of our Mother Eve."
Anyway, really GREAT movie!   Also, look how cute Ella's Aladdin outfit is!   It has peacocks and lamps and is just SO cute!

My stake was assigned to help at Oakcrest on May 18 and I volunteered to go with Sara and Chris.  Two other sisters from our stake came with us as well.  When we got there, we were so happy to see that Donna Young was there.  She was our stake Young Women's president for about a year until she was called to serve on the Oakcrest board.  It was a cold and snowy day, so we were glad to be assigned to wash dishes in the kitchen.  And Oakcrest is just SO great.  Even on a cold, snowy Saturday, as everyone is working, there is a special spirit there.

On May 17, we had a ward temple trip.  The youth were invited to do baptisms and the adults met to do an endowment session.  Unfortunately, only two youth were able to make it, but we had a wonderful evening in the temple!
