Suggestions wanted!

So I would love to hear what you all do with kid's schoolwork and awards and such. I mean, I recycle much of it, but there is some artwork and certificates and special work that I would like to save. I don't have the time or energy to make a big scrapbook of it, and some of it is bulky and can't just be stuck in a plastic divider sheet. What have you done to save these items?

On an unrelated note:
Only one more day off before I head back to work! Boo hoo! My summer is over. I'm so not ready to go back this year. But once I'm back, I know I'll be fine. I do love teaching! Just miss being home with my kids.

  1. (Things I've read about but haven't ever tried): Taking pictures of the artwork. Hanging it up in the garage or laundry room. Plastic tote. 3-ring binder.

I have a box to go through in the garage. This has inspired me to actually do something about it! :)

  2. I have some of the kids' artwork hung up in the laundry room. I also have a big under the bed box (plastic) that I save all my FAVORITE pictures... AND "portfolios" from each school year. I made Xaria's this year, just out of two pieces of 12X12 scrapbook paper, stapled the edges and wrote "Xaria's Kindergarten work" on the front! Simple... I think it's in the box as well!
I do try to label months/years on the pictures as I save them!

  3. Thanks for the simple ideas... I have a folder of stuff from Michelle from kinder that I've been meaning to do something with all summer...and now that I'm back to work I am desperate to do something tomorrow! I have taken photos of some things and then disposed of them...particularly of her writing. Neither of my kids are all that artistic, compared to other kids of their age, but I've saved a few things. But I like to save some writing and math samples. Anyway, thanks again!

And Nene, we have a gift for Sy. My girls would love to see the boys. This week is crazy (except tomorrow) but maybe the following week or weekend?

  4. I take pictures of the work! I love seeing it, but I'm not a fan of clutter. SOOO I snap a picture, then I can remember the art, but not have a mess...
in the future. an idea is to take a picture of the child with the art when she does it, then snap one of the art...then you have a photo of what she looked like while she did it, or after it was done AND a photo of the work!

OH! I also have Super choose her favortie stuff and have her hang it in her room. Then she can decide when she wants to let go of it! (she's still got stuff from kindergarten hanging up)

  5. Shadow boxes are fun. I have done the picture thing and LOVE it. I have a pack rat at heart and this is the only way we can declutter with her. I have a friend that has those file totes and has a file for each year she saves the "important stuff" then she goes through it at the end of the year and really saves the "most important stuff" by year in the totes.
word verif: Propacky: adj:somebody that packs professionally
