dead dog

Our dear Chester is lucky to be alive tonight. Alfredo came home from work and found that he had chewed through the wood on part of our deck. He loves wood and has chewed his way through a lot of our wood pile. We've given him rawhide bones to chew but they don't seem to hold his interest. But Alfredo built our deck (he tore out the old one) a year ago and Chester chewed a huge hole in one of the side walls. I'll post a photo tomorrow, but he is seriously lucky that Alfredo didn't kill him. Alfredo spent untold hours (plus a healthy amount of money) to build the deck. Darn dog. He really is smart and sweet and he is learning things quite quickly. But he is a chewer. Aargh!!!

  1. Oh dear. Not sure the dog would still be around in this house. :)

  2. Welcome to life with a puppy. Dalin's dog chews anything he can get his mouth on and take outside.

  3. Not fun! I'm sorry to hear about your deck!

I'm not sure if there's any advise I can give about that, except that there's some spray you can use so that they won't chew stuff. Bitter Spray is what it's called (I think)
We were fortunate because Dax was a big chewer, but she only chewed bad things when we weren't paying attention to her...and when that happened, she knew she was in trouble and always got put in time out (the bathroom)

  4. OH CRAP!!!!! I'm SO SORRY!!! I kind of worried about the wood chewing thing, but didn't want to worry you!!!!! Kennel??? You may have to use it a bit more??? little stinker! He is SOOOOOO.... sweet though! I LOVE him!!! We've had things happen with our puppy that haven't made us extremely happy, but now that he's 14 or so months old, he seems to be growing out of a lot of bad habits!!!!! SORRY!

  5. Alfredo doesn't want to kennel him all day, although I suggested that...at least until he's older. He chewed another big hole tonight...while we were home eating dinner. I'll try the spray. I think for now we're going to chain him so he can't get on the deck during the day but can still move around somewhat and get to his water and house and stuff. We'll try that spray, Brandi. Thanks for the suggestion. Alfredo is ready to give him away which would break the girls' hearts, especially Ella. She calls him Chesty (hee hee) and can't wait to see him each day. So we've got to figure out something. He really is a sweet dog. Aside from the chewing.

  6. YIKES! Chewy is a chewer too, but mostly lots and lots of toys:)

Careful with the chain. Make sure he can't jump over anything when he is chained--it will hang him. Being chained might cause him to dig, so choose your spot wisely. There was a chain system we used that we liked, it was a big metal giant corkscrew thing that screwed down into the dirt and then the chain swiveled around so they won't get tangled...you can place it in the middle of the yard and then he will have a big space to roam.

    GOOD LUCK!
