4th of july festivities

We started the day by doing a Fourth of July craft. The girls (with help from me) made sand art pictures. Except we used kosher salt (it's bigger than regular table salt). All you do is put some sand/salt in a sandwich bag and add food coloring. Then you put glue on the paper and shake the salt onto the paper. It makes fun pictures. They asked me to help them with the glue to make shapes.
They both enjoyed this project, although Ella got a little upset that she was supposed to shake the extra salt off.
That evening (after the girls helped me make 2 treats and 1 salad) we went to my aunt Elaine and uncle Phil's house for a barbecue. Here's Ella with Phil. Phil's two daughters and their families were also there.
After dinner, we sat outside and they did a couple of fireworks. They decided to save most of them until after it got dark. Because Alfredo had to work at 5:30 this morning and the next morning, we headed home so he could go to bed.
But the Bankheads had invited us over to do fireworks at their house. So the girls and I watched Dan and Dallin light fireworks. They both really enjoyed the show and had fun doing sparklers. After the fireworks, the girls chased Dallin around and we all had Creamies. Dallin is really sweet to my kids and they adore him. And while Ella used to be very shy around Dan, she now adores him. She yells hi from our house every time she sees him outside and talks to him. We're glad to have such great neighbors and friends.
